Celebrating International Mother Earth Day with NASA’s Chief Scientist and Senior Climate Advisor
On the occasion of Earth Day, Dr. Katherine Calvin, NASA’s Chief Scientist and Senior Climate Advisor joined Martin Nesirky, Director of the United Nations Information Service Vienna, for a special interview.
Earth Day, every April 22, celebrates and supports environmental movements. The theme for 2023 is “Invest in Our Planet”. In the interview, Dr. Calvin covers the how space benefits life on Earth through being a key tool for climate action and evidence-based decision making; highlights exciting NASA missions; the important role of the Office for Outer Space Affairs and the United Nations; and the intersection between climate science and government policymaking.
Additional topics include the commercial and private space industry; examples of how space exploration, technologies, and applications are a multiplying force for climate action and adaptation; and how developing countries are already benefiting from space.
